| Q: | What Senior Membership classifications do we have in the Club ? |
| A: | Seniors: 19 years and over Tertiary Student: Full-time adult students |
| Q: | What Junior Membership classifications do we have in the Club ? |
| A: | Juniors: 12 to 18 years inclusive Young Juniors: Under 11 years |
| Q: | What is the cut-off point as to ages ? |
| A: | Ages are as at 31 December 2011 |
| Q: | How much does it cost to join the Club ? |
| A: | Subscriptions are listed on various pages on the Club website, but the most logical one to look at is the Membership Page (accessible via the Membership tab on the Home Page) |
| Q: | How can I pay for my membership ? |
| A: | Cash, Cheque or Internet Banking. EFTPOS and Credit Card facilities are available at the Club |

| Q: | How can I register ? |
| A: | Go to the Club's Membership Page and complete and submit the on-line form. You can also or download the Membership Form from that page or obtain one from the Club. In both cases please complete the form and return to the Club office |
| Q: | What constitutes a Family Membership ? |
| A: | Two Adults and two Juniors, all resident at the same address |
| Q: | What is the Dress Code at the Club ? |
| A: | Members are required to wear apparel that complies with a standard of dress that is determined by the Committee. The standard of tennis attire to be worn at the Club is based on the ruling issued by NZT (with exceptions to the restriction of commercial identification labels and use of tracksuits). Specifically, all players shall dress for play in a professional manner. Clean and customarily acceptable tennis attire shall be worn. Items considered not acceptable include: Dress Shirts, Beach Shorts, Rugby Jerseys, Cargo Shorts and Jeans of any kind. |
| Q: | What is the Dress Code for InterClub Teams ? |
| A: | Dress standard applicable to InterClub teams may differ and should be checked with the Club Captain |
| Q: | What footwear must I wear at the Club ? |
| A: | Footwear must be manufactured especially for tennis. Neither training, cross-training, running, Astroturf, touch rugby type shoes nor basketball type boots are permitted. Stiletto heels, spiked or sprigged shoes, and any type of hard-sole shoes are forbidden, and in any event, marking soles are not permitted |
| Q: | What playing rights do Seniors enjoy at the Club ? |
| A: | Subject to the requirements for organized play (including any club competitions, InterClub and coaching), as determined by the Committee from time to time, Senior and Full-time Tertiary Student Members shall have full playing rights. Any By-Laws made by the Committee concerning playing times, conduct on the courts, organized periods of play, or any matters concerning court usage shall protect the rights of all members to have reasonable access to the courts and facilities |
| Q: | What specific times are allocated to Senior Play at the Club ? |
| A: | Subject to the allowance of scheduled court bookings for coaching, competitions, special group bookings, etc. which require full Committee consultation and approval with advance warnings given to the interrupted players involved, organized playing times are as follows: Saturdays: 12:30pm-4:30pm Tuesdays: 9:30am-12:00noon 7:00pm-9:00pm (under lights, if required) Thursdays: 9:30am-12:00noon Winter Mid-Week: 10:00am-12:00noon (May 1st until opening day). Members attending organised play will be rostered for board duties |
| Q: | Does the Club "grade" Senior players for casual play ? |
| A: | Yes. The Club operates an internal grading system which is designed to assist those on board duty to set up acceptable games for all members. A computerised system has recently been introduced for organised play times, and an enhanced grouping system (harmonised with the Club's Grading System) is utilised at such times. | Q: | Does the Club have a Social Membership ? |
| A: | Yes. For players who wish to have close connections with the Club, but who do not wish to become full members, the Social Membership category provides members copies of all Club communications and invitations to Club socials and open tournaments. The fee shall be $20.00 for the season. Social Membership does not provide for any rights to court usage without additional payment of appropriate fees, neither does the player have any rights to play in InterClub competitions, Club Tournaments, or Club Championship matches, nor have voting rights in any form |
| Q: | Does the Club provide for casual use of it's facilities outside of usual playing times ? |
| A: | Charges for the hire of Club Facilities outside of playing times are determined as follows (all charges include GST): Hire of Courts: $5.00 per person per hour. Charge for tennis balls: $10.00 per pair (non-refundable). Charge for use of lights: $5.00 per court per hour. Non-members playing with Club members are not exempt court fees, unless special circumstances apply. Applications for dispensation are to be presented to the President |
| Q: | Does the Club have coaching available to members ? |
| A: | Yes. Specialist individual and Group Coaching is available through the Club's Academy. Please call 358-3272 (BPTC) for details |
| Q: | As a Senior Member, am I allowed to use Club courts to coach others ? |
| A: | On an absolutely non-commercial basis, you may coach or hit with other members of the Club. It is however strictly forbidden for any member to receive any form of consideration or reward whatsoever for hitting with or coaching other members. All commercial hitting and coaching is undertaken by the Club's coaching staff, and the Club's coaching resources (balls, trolleys, cones, racquets etc.) are not available for use by Club members. Members are encouraged to respect the coaching staff's rights to provide specialist services to the Club, and to refrain from any activities which could cause difficulties for the Club or the coaches (for example regularly coaching or hitting with multiple partners). This is a very sensitive area and your respect is required |
| Q: | As a Senior, what is my obligation to the Club if I wish to resign ? |
| A: | Resignations must be made in writing, and be in the Secretary's hands prior to the Annual General Meeting, otherwise the Member is liable for the ensuing season's fees |
| Q: | What times are allocated specifically for Junior Play at the Club ? |
| A: | Saturdays (Organised play and Beginner Coaching): 9:00am-10:00am (5-10 years) 10:00am-11:00am (5-10 years) 11:00am-12:00pm (11-18 years) |
| Q: | What additional times are allocated for Junior Play at the Club ? |
| A: | Juniors have preferential use of the courts until 12:30pm on Saturdays. Juniors also have preferential use on Weekdays (during the playing season only) from 3:30pm-5:00pm. Junior Members AND Parents (whether Members or not) have rights to courts all day Sunday - strictly subject to court availability to other financial Members |
| Q: | If I am a parent and my child is a member of the Club am I allowed to coach him/her ? |
| A: | Yes, but only on weekdays and Sundays as above, always subject strictly to court availability. On weekdays, organised coaching takes precedence as to court availbility |
| Q: | Why must shoe tags be worn at all times whlist playing at the Club ? |
| A: | At the beginning of each season, Members are issued with a current shoe tag which serves as proof of Membership. This tag must be worn when attending or playing for the Club. Without this tag, access will be denied as part of the Club's strict "NO PAY — NO PLAY !" policy |
| Q: | As a Junior, what is my obligation to the Club if I wish to resign ? |
| A: | Junior and Young Junior Members of The Burnside Park Tennis Club, Inc. are not required to formally resign, rather at each year's end their membership terminates, and re-registration is necessary at the beginning of the new season |
| Q: | The recent Christchurch earthquakes must have created unprecedented demands on Club facilities - how does this affect court availability for Club members ? |
| A: | The Club has tried very hard to minimise any impact our members, but some compromises have been necessary to enable Tournaments and InterClub to proceed efficiently. Interim adjustments have been clearly gazetted and members have been advised by letter that there are some concessions in place. Please refer to the noticebaords and the website for current information. |
