South Island Primary and Intermediate Schools Championships with Burnside Park Juniors featuring prominently !
			Anna Cochrane (Geraldine High School), proved seedings can be upset, beating three of them to win the title at Timaru’s ASB Tennis Centre. Cochrane upset 4th seed Harriet Clyma (Cobham Intermediate) in the second round combating windy conditions, and in a tight semi-final she overcame top seed Vera Goesman (St Andrews College) in 3 sets with both girls feeling the effects of a long match. The final against 2nd seed Lily Bray (Waimairi School) was played in perfect conditions, and the tennis displayed by both girls showed that these players will have a lot to offer national tennis events in the coming years. Cochrane established early leads in each set and closed out the match in just under 1 1/2 hours 6-4 6-3. In the playoff for 3rd place 3rd seed Holly Matson (Heaton Intermediate) beat Vera Goesman 6-2 6-3.
The boys draw pretty much followed rankings with top seed Taylor Nelson (Cobham Intermediate) earning the title with a toughly fought final over 2nd seed Tom Russell (Oamaru Intermediate) 7-5 6-2. Earlier in the day Russell had a 2 hour match with 4th seed Riley Bruhns (Kirkwood Intermediate), eventually winning 4-6 6-4 6-3. Bruhns finished in 4th place, beaten by unseeded local Jack Deeley (Gleniti Primary School) who finished the stronger in the 3rd/4th playoff, winning 6-2 4-6 6-1.

New Season's Registration
Attached is the registration form for this season. Very little has changed from last season, and that includes the subscription fees.  One change that you may have noticed if you have been at the Club recently is that we now have KeyCard access through the front gate.  For many of you this won’t be an issue, however, if you wish to access the courts outside of organised play or coaching times you will need to purchase a KeyCard.   These cost $16.00, $11.00 of which is refundable when you return the card.

Hopefully all the information you need is in the registration form, however, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to call the Club (messages will be checked regularly), or you can e-Mail Lisa at junad@burnsideparktennis.com or Gareth on coach@burnsideparktennis.com

InterClub Season
You will see from the dates that the InterClub season starts and finishes a little later for the first half of the season.  This is obviously due to the changes in the school terms.  Unfortunately this hasn’t meant that time frame for registering teams has been made any later.  Due to the extra time needed this year to find courts for everyone to play on, Canterbury Tennis needs our preliminary numbers by the end of August, and we will be finalising our teams mid September, so we would really appreciate it if anyone that wants to play this season registers as soon as possible.  (We had a great response to our earlier email requesting interest for this season – thank you).

BPTC Shoe-tags 2011/2012   "No Pay  —  No Play"
·  With a new season now well underway it is important that everyone displays their current shoe-tag when playing at the Club.  If you do not have a shoe-tag, you will not be permitted to play on our courts.  This is only fair to members who pay their subs, so be warned !
·  There is still a large number of shoes-tags in trays in the foyer.  If you have paid your subscription, but don't have a shoe-tag, it is most likely that your tag is in the foyer  —  please come down to the Club and claim yours, because they will not be posted out !
Our Club is soon to be locked (31st August) with secure member-only access.  Shoe-tags will be required to legally be on the premises !
